We hope you enjoyed a fantastic day with family and friends!

And we hope to see you again at next year’s Walk in the Park – Sunday 25 August, 2013, Federation Square.

We know it was an incredibly moving day, and for many of you it was an emotional experience. It was heart warming to see such tremendous community spirit from individuals who are living with Parkinson’s and their supporters, and from those who were celebrating the life of a loved one.

A huge thank you to all those who made a donation and/or actively fundraised to help us reach our 2012 fundraising goal!

Fundraising for this year’s event closed on September 30 and finally – after counting all the pennies – we are so excited to share some highlights to show just how successful this year’s event was.

This year, Walk in the Park raised a whopping grand total of $190,897.

This was achieved through registrations, corporate sponsorship, fundraising, donations, merchandise sales and our charity BBQ, which just goes to show, every penny really does count!

Once again, just under 2000 people participated in this year’s Walk event – 1769 to be exact. While this was down on our anticipated number of 2,200, it was an amazing site to see so many come together to show their support for the cause!

Thank you to everyone who got behind this event to make it such a huge success – not only in raising awareness of Parkinson’s but in raising vital funds to help us deliver support and information programs.

The first 100 people to fundraise $200 will be receiving a Gecko Stylus and Pen (RRP $29.95) courtesy of Gecko Gear. (These will be posted out in the coming weeks).

*Team Fundraising winner was randomly drawn from a list of all eligible Walk in the Park 2012 participants who fundraised $1000 or more by 30 September, 2012. Individual fundraising winners were randomly drawn from a list of all eligible Walk in the Park 2012 participants who fundraised $500 or more by 30 September, 2012. Early Bird fundraising winner was randomly drawn from a list of all eligible Walk in the Park 2012 participants who fundraised $500 or more by 31 August, 2012.

Some other fast facts about this year’s Walk in the Park:

• 720 sausages were barbequed and raised $1800 – special thanks to Medtronic Australasia for their sponsorship and members of Glenferrie Rotary for volunteering!
• 81 dogs participated
• 183 people volunteered, including 138 students from Swinburne University. 40 of them raised an incredible $2,501 during our Walk in the Park ‘tin rattle’.
• 183 Teams participated
• 38% of participants have Parkinson’s – 62% were friends, family, supporters and workmates.
